National Ayurveda Day

2nd November is observed as National Ayurveda Day by the Ministry of AYUSH and is celebrated across the country. Ayurveda is considered an integral aspect of India’s healthcare system and also holds recognition as a traditional medicine system by the World Health Organization (WHO). In 2016, the Union Ministry of AYUSH started observing Dhanwantari Jayanti (also known as Dhanteras, which is celebrated two days before Diwali) as the Ayurveda Day with an objective to nationalise this system of medicine and make it global.

The theme for this year is “Ayurveda for Poshana (Nutrition)”. Ayurveda also gained global acceptance and significance during the Covid-19 pandemic as a number of tips and techniques of the system were used to boost immunity.
