Biggest Jump in New Covd-19

India has registered as many as 59,118 more Covid-19 positive people in the last 24 hours. This has taken the cumulative count to 1,18,46,652, according to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Health Welfare (MoHFW).

This is the biggest jump in new Covd-19 infections registered in India in 2021 and the highest in over five months. The country had last witnessed around 55,000 new Covid cases on October 18 last year.


Six states, including Maharashtra, Punjab, Kerala, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, and Gujarat, have registered an increase in new Covid infections. These states accounted for 80.63% of the cases yesterday. Among these staes, Maharashtra continues to be the biggest contributor to daily Covid count of Indi as the state recorded 35,952 fresh Covid infections in the last 24 hours.

The country’s death toll has reached 1,60,949 as additional 257 more people succumbed to Covid-19 disease in the same period. As many as 32,987 recovered from the disease in same period, taking the total count of recoveries to 1,12,64,637. This has taken the count of the active cases in India at 4,21,066, surpassing the four-lakh mark.
