coronavirus vaccination

India is all set to start vaccination drive for COVID-19 in couple of weeks, it seems. With the objective to do reality check of preparedness and asses the readiness of planned activities, government starts dry run for corona vaccination from Monday.

The two-day dry run would be carried out in chosen districts in four states–Andhra Pradesh, Punjab, Gujarat and Assam. As per the Health Ministry, the exercise will include necessary data entry in Co-WIN, an online platform for monitoring of vaccine delivery, testing receipt and allocation, deployment of team members, mock drill of session sites with test beneficiaries. The dry runs would also include checks on cold storage and transportation arrangements.

“As the vaccine administrators will play an important role in the coronavirus vaccination process, training of trainers and those who shall administer the vaccine has been taken up across various States,” said the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW).

As per the Ministry, detailed training modules have been developed for different categories of vaccine handlers and administrators including medical officers and all others involved in the implementation process at different levels.

India has been witnessing sustained decline in daily number of cases, though new strain from UK continues sparking fear and panic among people.

Till date, no vaccine has got emergency use approval from regulator, though Oxford-Astrazeneca vaccine, tested and manufactured in India by Serum Institute, is the front-runner.
