Centre lifts export curbs on medical goggles, gloves

The government has decided to lift export curbs on medical goggles and gloves. These items were banned during COVID-19 to meet with the high demand within the country.

“The export policy of medical goggles and Nitrile/NBR gloves is amended from restricted to free category making all types of medical goggles and Nitrile/NBR gloves freely exportable,” the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) said in a notification.

In a separate notification, DGFT said import of copra is allowed through government-run trading firm MMTC, while import of coconut oil is permitted through STEs (state trading enterprises) except STC (State Trading Corporation).

In India, total number COVID-19 cases have crossed 10 million mark. Though the daily number of cases has dropped below 20,000, the emergence of new strain in Britain has triggered fear panic. The Government has undertaken several steps, including suspension of flight services and carrying out test of UK returned passengers.
