India, Sri Lanka to ink MoU for cooperation in traditional medicine

India and Sri Lanka Government are considering to enter into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for cooperation in traditional systems of medicine and homoeopathy between the two countries.

The proposed MoU will be inked between Indias Ministry of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (AYUSH) and Sri Lankas Ministry of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine.

The Government is planning to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Sri Lanka for cooperation in areas of traditional systems of medicine & Homoeopathy, AYUSH Minister of State Sreepad Naik told Rajya Sabha in a written reply.

According to the Ministry of AYUSH, the MoU shall explore cooperation between the two countries to promote the traditional systems of medicine and homoeopathy, exchange of experts, setting up information cell along with academic chairs in universities and institutes.

The financial resources necessary to conduct activities under the MoU will be met from the existing allocated budget under this Ministrys Central Sector Scheme for the promotion of International Cooperation in AYUSH, an official statement said.

The Ministry of AYUSH has been signing country-to-country MoUs for cooperation in Traditional Medicine. This is the 11th MoU being signed by India.
