blood banksIn order to control the indiscriminate use of blood in treatment leading to a rise in transfusion-related infections and deaths, the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) has issued a circular restricting issuing of blood and its components on prescribed by Ayurveda, Homeopathy and Unani doctors.

The circular issued on August 18 has caused a flutter within the alternative medicine practitioners, who believe this will adversely affect healthcare delivery in rural areas.

According to reports, the Mumbai hospitals too could face hardships during emergencies since several institutions have hired Ayurveda doctors to run their wards and ICUs.
