Health care industry websites are among the most secure, according to a recent report from WhiteHat Security, a provider of website risk management tools, For the study, researchers examined 3,000 websites across 400 organisations. According to the study, the average website has serious vulnerabilities more than nine months out of the year. It also found that data leaks are the most common website vulnerabilities. In 2010, health care industry websites had an average of 33 serious vulnerabilities, less than three per month. In comparison, the average website had 230 serious vulnerabilities in 2010. Banking websites had the lowest average number of serious vulnerabilities at 30, while retail websites had the highest average number of serious vulnerabilities at 404. The study also found that health care websites were exposed to at least one serious vulnerability an average of 133 days during the year. Across all industries, websites were exposed to at least one serious vulnerability an average of 233 days of the year.
