Biometric attendance system will come into force in all government medical colleges and hospitals in Chennai within a month, according to health minister MRK Panneerselvam. The system is expected to help curb private practice by government doctors during duty hours. Speaking at a function in Madras Medical College, Panneerselvam admitted that private practice by doctors of GHs continues to be an issue. He also said that the government was taking steps to develop Royapettah government hospital as a specialty centre for treatment of cancer.
