Southend Hospital in the UK has started checking patients’ heart rates over the phone. Patients with pacemakers can send information over the phone line to medics who can interpret the information. All the information is recorded on a monitor and doctors can follow up patients more closely without them coming into the hospital.
Southend Hospital implants about 350 pacemakers every year.
