Medical device users across the world will now have access to over 1,300 medical device standards and related information in a new database compiled by American National Standards Institute. The new Medical Device Standards Portal will house information from the US Food and Drug Administration, the International Electrotechnical Commission and the International Organization for Standardization, as well as applicable European regulations. The database, powered by Citation Technologies, will have fully indexed documents in a PDF format that can be easily downloaded. Users will receive notifications when standards are updated and can compare revisions with colour-coded highlights denoting changes. Users can also integrate company practices and polices into the standards, add comments directly into the standards and share analyses with others. The database has been jointly developed by the American National Standards Institute, the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation, ASTM International and the German Institute for Standardization.
