The Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society today announced the launch of its elite Certified Professional in Healthcare Information and Management Systems (CPHIMS) accreditation in Singapore. The accreditation exam, which was previously only held once a year during the HIMSS AsiaPac conference and exhibition, is now available twice a year in Singapore to eligible candidates.CPHIMS has also been endorsed under the Techno-Strategists Programme (TSP) by Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA). TSP encourages professionals to acquire in-depth industry domain knowledge with infocomm applications through training courses, workshops and industry-recognised certification examinations. The programme offers funding of up to 50% for eligible candidates who are Singaporeans and Permanent Residents. This endorsement is timely as training and innovation ranks high on the list of priorities for many companies during this economic downturn. CPHIMS is the only credential for the healthcare IT industry, and eligible candidates become certified by passing the challenging CPHIMS exam. Individuals who meet eligibility criteria for CPHIMS and successfully complete the CPHIMS exam are designated a Certified Professional in Healthcare Information and Management Systems (CPHIMS). Successful CPHIMS candidates are able expand their career opportunities, validate their competency and credibility, distinguish themselves from peers, and enjoy the pride of recognition of knowing that they are among the elite in a critical field of healthcare. Steven Yeo, Vice President & utive Director of HIMSS Asia Pacific, said, ‘the CPHIMS exam is an accreditation that allows Healthcare IT professionals to demonstrate their experience and knowledge of the industry, and the Techno-Strategists Program (TSP) comes timely to further encourage more professionals in Singapore to get CPHIMS certified.’ Mr Andrew Khaw, Senior Director (Industry Development Group), IDA: ‘IDA is pleased that the Certified Professional in Healthcare Information and Management Systems (CPHIMS) certification exam is now available in Singapore. Infocomm is increasingly not just a key enabler of business, it is impacting traditional ways of doing business. Mobility, data pay-as-you-use software and collaboration with end-customers are examples of new platforms that businesses need to consider how to incorporate in order to engage with their customers. For the healthcare sector, the mass availability of systems to capture, store, transmit and analyse data offers new opportunities for faster and deeper client insight and more integrated services. It is even more important in this day and age for Healthcare IT professionals to be equipped with both core infocomm and healthcare domain knowledge and this Certification will enhance the recognition of such infocomm-powered professionals. This is another milestone for IDA’s Technostrategist Programme.’ To date there are only 7 people in Singapore who have been awarded the elite CPHIMS designation, demonstrating a commitment to upgrading their skills and staying on top of the latest developments in the industry. Dr. Chong Yoke Sin, CEO, IHIS said ‘The CPHIMS credential is a recognised standard for practitioners of Healthcare IT worldwide. I fully encourage my organisation of healthcare IT professionals to join me in this quest to keep abreast of the latest best practices and advances in healthcare IT. Having the CPHIMS is a good demonstration of that commitment.’ Mr Fong Choon Khin, Senior Vice President, IT & CIO, Parkway Holdings Limited, said ‘Having the CPHIMS credential is a demonstration of our commitment to continual professional development, and to stay updated on best practices and technological advancements within the healthcare information and management systems industry.’ HIMSS expects more than 100 healthcare professionals to sit for the CPHIMS exam in Singapore every year. The first TSP endorsed CPHIMS exam is scheduled to place on the 27th of October at Nanyang Polytechnic.
