For developing a purpose-driven Information Communication Technology plan for Barbados, a cabinet subcommittee has been established. The government had recognised the need for integrating ICT in nations developmental programmes and strategies and therefore, this committee was formed representing major economic sectors inclusive of health and education, explained Minister of Health Donville Inniss.

He added that since health care sector requires specific ICT delivery, his ministry had already taken into account significant considerations in formulating an ICT policy through the work of an information management and information technology task force. This draft policy, Minister Inniss described, outlines the strategic vision for the provision of healthcare services that incorporates individualised care, best practices, performance improvement and management. Tenders were also being requested for the integration of health information system, that he explained, would entail detailed functional specifications of the various components of the system with modules for laboratories, pharmacies, patient registration, in addition to a primary care and hospital modules.
