Medical imaging specialist Barco is expanding its portfolio of innovative medical display systems with a brand-new family of clinical review displays. The new product line is Barco’s answer to the growing demand for visualizing DICOM-compliant images and patient information beyond the radiology department. The ‘MDRC’, as the new product is called, will provide a quality yet budget-friendly visualization solution for a wide spectrum of applications throughout hospitals, imaging centers and private practices. “To deliver exceptional healthcare, quality patient images and patient information need to be available in all areas of the hospital, not only in radiology. The new MDRC displays make this possible by delivering consistent, DICOM-compliant images at a very affordable price,” explains Johan Stockman, Market Director at Barco. “Thanks to their excellent image quality and rich feature set, the MDRC displays are very well suited for visualizing PACS, cardiac, orthopedic, dental or pathology content, along with data from EMR, HIS or RIS applications,” he continues. With the addition of the MDRC to its product portfolio, Barco now offers customers a single point of contact for all their medical visualization needs. The MDRC series comes in two variants: a 20-inch color screen with 2 MegaPixel resolution (MDRC-2120) and a 19-inch color version with 1 MegaPixel resolution (MDRC-1119). The latter can optionally be fitted with a touch screen interface. Both models are equipped with professional-quality LCDs that present medical images with higher contrast and a wider viewing angle than conventional LCD screens. An integrated DICOM part 14 Look-Up Table (10-bit) assures accurate grayscales and worry-free ‘DICOM-out-of-the-box’ imaging. Consistent image quality is a prerequisite for dependable healthcare imaging, and was therefore high on the MDRC’s priority list. To achieve this, Barco fitted the displays with its proven Backlight Output Stabilization (BLOS) technology, which permanently stabilizes the luminance of the LCD backlight, leading to long-term image consistency. Furthermore, the display line is bundled with the innovative MediCal QAWeb software for DICOM calibration and Quality Assurance. The new clinical review displays have been specifically designed to keep capital investment and operating costs low. That’s why the displays are built with high-quality components and equipped with a series of intelligent features. These include Backlight Output Stabilization and a ‘power saving mode’, which automatically switches off the display when not being used. Both the 19-inch MDRC-1119 and the 20-inch MDRC-2120 are immediately available for commercial distribution.
