The Centre has proposed to set up a state-of-the-art National Cancer Institute in Chennai at an initial cost of INR 200 crore, the proposed institute will come up on a 10-acre plot in Egmore.

The institute, is promised to be a premier referral and research institution. Union Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss has said his ministry was also contemplating introducing Emergency Management and Research Institute (EMRI) services on national highways following the success of a similar scheme in Andhra Pradesh.


The project will be implemented with the support of Satyam Computers.
