KIMS Kingsway Hospitals in Nagpur has commissioned a hybrid cathlab built on the Wipro GE Healthcare Allia 540 platform for vascular surgery and endovascular interventions. The hospital says it is the first hybrid cathlab of its kind in Central India, and it is positioning the facility as a step up in its capacity to handle complex cardiac and vascular cases without sending patients to metro centres.

A hybrid cathlab brings an operating theatre and a high-end interventional imaging suite into one room. That lets surgical and catheter-based teams work together on the same patient during a single procedure, switching between open and minimally invasive techniques when needed.
AI-enabled imaging at the core
The Allia 540 system uses a 41 x 41 cm large-area detector paired with AI-enabled image processing. According to the hospital, the set-up is designed to produce high-quality images while keeping radiation doses optimised, with dedicated radiation-safety features for both patients and clinical staff.

Key capabilities of the installation include:
- Cone-beam CT for three-dimensional visualisation of anatomy during the procedure itself.
- CT/MRI image fusion, which overlays a patient’s earlier scans on live procedural images to guide catheter and device placement.
- A 55-inch FlexVision medical-grade monitor that brings multiple imaging and monitoring feeds onto a single large display.
- An extended-length tilting OT table for better patient positioning across long or complex interventions.
Built for complex aortic and vascular work
The hospital expects the suite to support demanding endovascular procedures such as endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) and thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR), where precise 3D guidance and image fusion can make a significant difference to accuracy and procedure time. The broader aim, it says, is to expand imaging-guided, precision interventions and improve procedural safety for patients across Central India.
Part of a larger KIMS–Wipro GE technology pact
The installation follows an earlier memorandum of understanding between KIMS and Wipro GE Healthcare for medical technology procurement worth up to ₹700 crore over three years. That agreement covers equipment supply and servicing across KIMS’ 12 existing hospitals and four upcoming facilities, with planned purchases spanning PET-CT and SPECT-CT systems, cathlabs, MRI and CT scanners, ultrasound systems and critical-care equipment. Under the pact, Wipro GE Healthcare acts as the medical technology partner for the KIMS network.
For hospital technology leaders, the Nagpur deployment is another sign of how AI is moving into the imaging chain itself, from dose optimisation to real-time 3D guidance, and how tier-2 cities are increasingly getting advanced interventional infrastructure that was once limited to metro tertiary centres.
