Even Healthcare

Bengaluru-based healthcare startup’s $50 million Series B funding highlights investor appetite for integrated care models, even as questions remain over profitability, scalability and valuation benchmarks.

Bengaluru-based Even Healthcare has raised $50 million in a Series B funding round led by existing investor Khosla Ventures, with participation from Alpha Wave, valuing the company at approximately $300 million. The latest fundraise takes its total capital raised to more than $120 million and marks a significant step in its plan to expand its hospital network across Bengaluru.

The funding has also drawn attention to a broader question confronting India’s healthcare sector: how should investors value a technology-enabled healthcare startup that is still reporting annual losses against established hospital operators with larger infrastructure, patient volumes and operating histories?

Even Healthcare Plans to Expand Its Hospital Network

Founded in 2021 by Mayank Banerjee, Matilde Giglio and Alessandro Ialongo, Even Healthcare combines preventive care, outpatient consultations, diagnostics, hospitalisation and post-discharge support through an integrated managed-care model. Its approach aims to align healthcare delivery with patient outcomes rather than the volume of tests and procedures performed.

The company currently operates two hospitals in Bengaluru and plans to expand to five facilities by early 2027. The new funding will primarily support this expansion, with the company seeking to bring a hospital within five kilometres of its members across the city. Even also operates clinics and telemedicine services and serves more than 250,000 members across 10 cities.

According to the company, both existing hospitals achieved operational profitability, excluding depreciation, within a year of opening. Even has also reported unplanned readmission rates below 1% in its programmes with insurance partners and hospital stays around 40% shorter than comparison benchmarks. These are company-reported outcomes and will need to be assessed alongside independently verifiable clinical and financial performance as the network expands.

Revenue Growth Accompanied by Rising Losses

Even’s valuation has attracted attention partly because its financial performance remains at an early stage relative to the expectations embedded in its latest funding round.

The company’s FY2024–25 revenue from operations rose to ₹27.2 crore, compared with ₹8.3 crore in FY2023–24. However, its net loss widened to ₹90.2 crore from ₹72.4 crore over the same period, according to reported financial filings.

Financial indicator FY2023–24 FY2024–25
Revenue from operations ₹8.3 crore ₹27.2 crore
Net loss ₹72.4 crore ₹90.2 crore

The figures highlight the challenge of scaling a healthcare business that combines technology, care management and physical hospital infrastructure. While its existing hospitals have reportedly achieved operational profitability, the company’s consolidated financial performance continues to reflect investment in building and expanding the broader business.

For investors, the next phase will depend on whether Even can translate membership growth and hospital-level operating performance into sustainable cash flows while managing the capital requirements of new facilities.

Valuation Per Bed: An Interesting, but Incomplete, Comparison

The discussion has gained further traction because of the stark difference between Even’s reported valuation and the scale of established hospital operators such as Paras Health.

Even’s reported valuation of $300 million translates to approximately ₹2,850 crore at an illustrative exchange rate of ₹95 per dollar. If divided by an estimated existing capacity of around 140 beds, this implies a valuation of roughly ₹20 crore per bed.

By comparison, Paras Healthcare operates eight hospitals with an aggregate capacity of 2,211 beds. Its IPO valuation was reported at approximately ₹7,498 crore at the upper end of the price band, implying an equity valuation of roughly ₹3.4 crore per bed when divided by total bed capacity.

These indicative calculations suggest a substantial gap in valuation per bed. However, they should not be interpreted as a direct measure of relative business value.

Even’s valuation reflects expectations around its managed-care model, technology, membership base, preventive healthcare services and future hospital expansion. Paras Health, meanwhile, has an established multi-hospital network, a much larger bed base and a financial performance that can be assessed across multiple operating years. The comparison also uses estimated capacity for Even and total bed capacity for Paras, rather than a consistent measure of operational beds.

Valuation per bed is therefore a useful discussion point, but it cannot independently establish whether either company is overvalued or undervalued.

What the Funding Signals for India’s Healthcare Market

Even’s fundraise reflects investor interest in healthcare models that bring financing, technology and care delivery under a more integrated structure. By taking greater control over hospital operations, the company aims to reduce fragmented care, improve continuity after discharge and create incentives around clinical outcomes.

The model also faces execution risks. Hospital expansion requires investment in equipment, staffing and facility fit-outs, while the benefits of preventive care and reduced hospital utilisation must translate into commercially sustainable contracts and operating economics.

As Even expands its Bengaluru network, investors will be watching hospital utilisation, patient outcomes, revenue growth, cash burn and the pace at which new facilities reach operational profitability.

The larger question for India’s healthcare industry is whether integrated, technology-enabled care can deliver measurable improvements in patient outcomes while building a financially sustainable business. Even’s next stage of expansion will provide a more meaningful test of that proposition than valuation-per-bed comparisons alone.
