New Delhi, August 8, 2026: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Dr. Sanjeev Sinha as Executive Director of AIIMS Jammu (Vijaypur, Samba) and Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Dr. Narendra Kotwal as Executive Director of AIIMS Bhopal, marking a significant move to strengthen leadership at two of India’s premier healthcare institutions.

According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT), Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, dated August 7, 2026, the appointments have been approved for a period of three years from the date of assumption of charge, or until the age of 70 years, or until further orders, whichever is earliest.

Dr. Sanjeev Sinha Appointed Director, AIIMS Jammu

Dr. Sanjeev Sinha, Professor and Head of the Department of Medicine at AIIMS New Delhi, has been appointed Executive Director of AIIMS Jammu on deputation.

A distinguished physician and academic, Dr. Sinha brings extensive clinical, teaching and institutional leadership experience from one of the country’s leading medical institutions. His appointment is expected to further strengthen clinical services, medical education, research and institutional development at AIIMS Jammu.

Dr. Narendra Kotwal to Head AIIMS Bhopal

Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Dr. Narendra Kotwal, an eminent endocrinologist, has been appointed Executive Director of AIIMS Bhopal on a contract basis.

Dr. Kotwal has previously served as Director of Endocrinology at Paras Health and Former Director & Commandant, Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune. His extensive experience in medicine, endocrinology, medical education and institutional administration is expected to contribute to the continued growth of AIIMS Bhopal.

Dr. Jitendra Singh Welcomes Appointments

Dr. Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology and Earth Sciences, and MoS in the PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions and Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT), Government of India, welcomed the appointments of Dr. Sanjeev Sinha and Dr. Narendra Kotwal. Expressing his appreciation, Dr. Jitendra Singh said:

“Grateful to Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji for approving the appointment of a distinguished physician, Head of the Department of Medicine at AIIMS New Delhi, and a valued colleague, Dr. Sanjeev Sinha, as Director, AIIMS Jammu.”

He also expressed his delight over the appointment of Dr. Narendra Kotwal, an eminent endocrinologist, as Director of AIIMS Bhopal, noting that the appointments reflect a strong commitment to excellence and leadership in India’s premier healthcare institutions.
