Zydus Pharma (1)

Zydus Lifesciences Ltd., an innovation-driven global healthcare company, has announced the launch of ‘Zyrifa’, its biosimilar version of Denosumab 120 mg (subcutaneous). The therapy is widely used to reduce and delay Skeletal Related Events (SREs) in patients with solid tumours and multiple myeloma, one of the major complications that severely impacts cancer outcomes.

Denosumab, a monoclonal antibody, plays a crucial role in maintaining bone integrity by preventing complications such as fractures, spinal cord compression, and severe bone pain. Zyrifa is positioned to improve access for Indian patients suffering from bone metastases arising from cancers of the breast, prostate, lung, kidney, thyroid, head & neck, myeloma, and other solid tumours. The product supports Zydus’ focus on affordability in oncology care.

Addressing a Critical Unmet Need in Advanced Cancer

Bone metastases are pervasive in late-stage cancers, significantly impairing quality of life. Clinical and population-based analyses indicate high prevalence:

  • 50–70% of patients with advanced breast or prostate cancer develop bone involvement.
  • 15–40% of those with lung, kidney, thyroid, or melanoma also experience metastatic spread to bones.

These complications often restrict mobility, impact patient dignity, and increase the burden of care, making accessible bone-targeted therapy essential.

Leadership’s Perspective

Commenting on the launch, Dr. Sharvil P. Patel, Managing Director, Zydus Lifesciences Ltd., said, “With Denosumab 120 mg SC, we aim to bring access and affordability to cancer patients needing critical care. This therapy supports mobility and helps patients maintain strength in their fight against cancer.”

Zydus continues to expand its biologics and biosimilars pipeline, with launches spanning treatments for breast cancer, prostate cancer, blood malignancies, and multiple solid tumours. The company has also built partnerships with leading diagnostic organisations to enhance early detection and continuity of care.

The introduction of Zyrifa reinforces Zydus’ strategic focus on providing high-quality, cost-effective biological therapies for complex and chronic disease areas, particularly oncology.
