Zydus Pharma

Zydus Lifesciences has entered the North American biosimilar market with a major strategic move, announcing an exclusive partnership with Germany-based Formycon AG for the licensing and supply of FYB206, a biosimilar candidate to Merck’s blockbuster immunotherapy Keytruda® (pembrolizumab).

The agreement grants Zydus Lifesciences Global FZE (UAE) exclusive commercialisation rights for FYB206 in the United States and Canada, while Formycon will lead product development, regulatory submissions, manufacturing, and supply. A Biologics License Application (BLA) submission to the US FDA is expected in the near term, marking a significant step toward expanding access to affordable immuno-oncology therapies.

Milestone Entry Into the North American Biosimilar Market

This partnership marks a pivotal expansion for Zydus, positioning the company in one of the world’s most lucrative and tightly regulated biosimilar markets. Managing Director of Zydus, Dr. Sharvil P. Patel, highlighted that the collaboration aligns with the company’s strategy to build a robust global biosimilars portfolio—particularly in oncology, where demand for cost-effective checkpoint inhibitors continues to rise.

Dr. Patel added that the partnership complements Zydus’ recently proposed acquisition of Agenus Inc.’s California-based manufacturing facilities, which will further strengthen the company’s long-term biologics footprint.

Leveraging Combined Strengths to Advance Global Immunotherapy Access

Formycon CEO, Dr. Stefan Glombitza, emphasised that FYB206 represents the company’s advanced capabilities in developing biosimilars for regulated markets such as the US and Canada. By joining forces with Zydus—known for its strong regulatory track record and commercial reach—the companies aim to significantly improve patient access to high-cost oncology treatments.

Driving Affordable Oncology Care

As Keytruda® remains one of the world’s top-selling cancer therapies across indications, including melanoma, lung cancer, head and neck cancer, and more, biosimilar competition is expected to reshape market dynamics post-exclusivity. FYB206 aims to play a meaningful role in expanding accessibility to life-saving immunotherapies through lower-cost alternatives.

The Zydus–Formycon collaboration underscores the growing momentum in the global biosimilars landscape, as manufacturers pursue high-value biologics and partnerships to accelerate market readiness, strengthen supply chains, and meet rising oncology care demands.
