Narayana Health has set up its new 110-bed KS-Narayana Hospital in Banashankari, Bengaluru, as a paperless digital hospital, where every step from outpatient registration to inpatient discharge runs on one platform. Narayana Hrudayalaya Limited described the model in its revised investor presentation for the September 2026 quarter, filed with the stock exchanges on 2 November 2026.

The company sums up the design as “eleven steps, one platform, zero paper handoffs”. Patients move through five digital outpatient steps and six digital inpatient steps, with most interactions handled on WhatsApp or the group’s NHCare app instead of at billing and admission counters. It comes as states such as Madhya Pradesh take public hospitals paperless, with a ₹300-crore HIMS rollout that began this month.
How the Narayana Health Banashankari digital hospital works for outpatients
According to the presentation, the outpatient journey has five steps, all digital:

- Paperless registration: a kiosk or counter creates the patient ID and books the appointment or walk-in, with no paper form at any step.
- Touch-free consultation billing: the consultation bill is raised and paid at the kiosk or counter, the receipt is digital, and refunds go back to the source or a hospital wallet.
- Counter-free service billing: doctors’ orders for tests and procedures post to the same visit and are billed digitally, so there is no separate cash counter.
- Live queue tracking: the token is shared on NHCare or WhatsApp, and a queue management system runs the ward TVs, doctor-wise tokens and wait-time tracking.
- Green-channel pharmacy: the prescription lands in a pharmacy cart on NHCare and the kiosk, and the patient pays digitally and collects medicines at a separate green channel.
What changes for admitted patients and families
The six inpatient steps move the paperwork of a hospital stay to messaging tools:
- Upfront cost estimate: built in ATHMA, the group’s hospital software, from package and per-day rates, and shared with the family before admission.
- One-tap digital consent: consent is captured and signed on WhatsApp or NHCare instead of on a paper form at the counter.
- Paperless admission: a WhatsApp and NHCare admission bot handles documents, advance payment, bed allotment and the inpatient number.
- Always-on companion: every request or complaint during the stay is logged as a ticket by a companion bot and escalated through three levels on a 30-minute service target.
- Discharge without delay: marking for discharge, the discharge summary, the final bill and the payment link are all sent on WhatsApp, and the file never moves on paper.
- Digital gate pass: visitor, attendant and discharge passes are issued as QR codes on WhatsApp and checked by security at the exit.

The presentation also lists group targets that tie in with the digital push: a 30% cut in paper use per patient by 2026 compared with 2023, and a zero trust cyber security architecture by 2026. For the September quarter, the company reported consolidated operating revenue of ₹2,844 crore, up 73% year on year, and profit after tax of ₹301.2 crore, according to its investor presentation.
Why it matters for hospital digital transformation
Most Indian hospitals that go paperless start with records and lab reports, while billing, consent and discharge often stay on paper and at counters. Narayana Health’s model moves those steps to WhatsApp, which most patients already use. Public systems are heading the same way, from Tripura’s IHMIS for all government hospitals to Tamil Nadu’s Nalam AI medicine slot booking, and vendors are building integrated platforms such as the Mulk Technology and OnClarity digital hospital suite.
