Tamil Nadu has allocated ₹23,357 crore to the Health and Family Welfare Department in its 2026–27 Budget, reinforcing its commitment to strengthening healthcare infrastructure and expanding access to quality medical services across the state.

Presenting the budget, Finance Minister Marie Wilson announced a series of healthcare initiatives, including the establishment of five district-level cancer care hospitals under a hub-and-spoke model on medical college campuses. The government has earmarked ₹110 crore for the project, which aims to improve access to specialised cancer diagnosis, surgeries, and treatment closer to patients.

The budget also prioritises telemedicine, primary healthcare, and maternal health by introducing enhanced support for high-risk pregnancy care and expanding digital healthcare services.

These measures are expected to improve healthcare accessibility, particularly in rural and underserved regions, while reducing the burden on tertiary hospitals.

The latest allocation reflects Tamil Nadu’s continued focus on preventive healthcare, digital health transformation, cancer care infrastructure, and strengthening public health systems to deliver better patient outcomes across the state.
