Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Rajasthan on February 28 to launch a nationwide Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination drive aimed at strengthening cervical cancer prevention efforts through expanded immunisation coverage.
The initiative focuses on vaccinating adolescent girls against HPV infection, a leading cause of cervical cancer. The programme will be implemented through government healthcare institutions, including primary health centres, community health centres, district hospitals and other public health facilities operating under national immunisation frameworks.
The rollout is expected to be coordinated through existing public healthcare infrastructure, involving state health departments, immunisation officers, frontline healthcare workers and vaccination centres responsible for beneficiary identification and vaccine administration. The programme aligns with preventive healthcare strategies that prioritise early disease prevention through vaccination-based interventions.
From a healthcare delivery perspective, the HPV vaccination campaign will involve vaccine procurement, cold-chain management, digital beneficiary tracking and monitoring systems to ensure effective implementation across regions. Public health authorities will oversee operational planning, training of healthcare personnel and awareness activities related to cervical cancer prevention and vaccination uptake.
The initiative also reflects the growing emphasis on preventive oncology within India’s healthcare system, where immunisation programmes are being integrated with broader public health services. Healthcare institutions and programme administrators will play a key role in managing vaccine logistics, ensuring availability at service points, and maintaining reporting mechanisms under national health programmes.
During the visit, projects worth ₹16,680 crore across multiple sectors will also be unveiled, alongside the launch of the vaccination drive, with healthcare remaining a key component of the government’s public service delivery agenda.
The HPV vaccination rollout represents a public health intervention focused on expanding access to preventive healthcare services while strengthening institutional healthcare capacity involved in immunisation and disease prevention programmes across the country.
