Hon’ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Shri. Chandrababu Naidu inaugurated the newly developed Super Speciality Eye Care Centre at Sankara Eye Hospital in Pedakakani, Guntur district, reaffirming his administration’s dedication to building a “Healthy, Wealthy, and Happy Andhra Pradesh.”
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Naidu underscored the government’s vision of holistic health-driven development, stating that “poor health is the real form of poverty.” He highlighted that the state’s progress rests on the foundation of good health and equitable access to quality medical services.
The Chief Minister applauded the Sankara Eye Foundation for its transformative work in providing accessible eye care to the underprivileged across India. Established under the spiritual guidance of Jagadguru Sri Sri Sri Shankara Vijayendra Saraswati Swamiji of the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham, the foundation has become a national leader in community ophthalmology.
With a presence spanning 14 hospitals across 10 states, the Sankara Eye Foundation has conducted over 30 lakh free eye surgeries and screened around 70 lakh children for vision-related issues. Each day, the network performs approximately 750 free surgeries, supported by a team of over 2,200 medical professionals and more than 2,500 hospital beds.
The Guntur facility, operational since 2003, stands as one of the foundation’s flagship centres. It has so far completed over 4 lakh free surgeries and conducted more than 9 lakh eye screenings. Equipped with 300 beds, the hospital serves 2,500–3,000 patients daily and spearheads key initiatives such as Rainbow, a program dedicated to pediatric eye care, and Gift of Vision, a large-scale rural outreach project that has organised over 32,000 free eye camps.
Reiterating his government’s commitment to advancing healthcare access, CM Naidu said the state will focus on comprehensive medical reforms to ensure that quality healthcare reaches even the most remote corners of Andhra Pradesh.
