Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy recently conducted a review meeting to discuss the development plans for the new Osmania General Hospital at Goshamahal Stadium. The meeting, which included senior government officials, focused on key aspects of the project’s execution, ensuring both modern healthcare infrastructure and improved accessibility for Hyderabad’s residents.
Revanth Reddy emphasized the importance of enhanced transportation infrastructure, directing officials to initiate a comprehensive survey for road expansions to support the hospital’s accessibility. He also highlighted the need for robust infrastructure such as reliable drinking water, electricity, and drainage systems, urging officials to prioritize these essential services to support the hospital’s operations.
To ensure seamless coordination across various departments, Municipal Administration Secretary Dana Kishore was appointed as the nodal officer for the project. Among the senior officials present were CM Advisor Vem Narender Reddy, Hyderabad Police Commissioner CV Anand, and District Collector Anudeep Durishetty.
In addition to the hospital’s relocation, the project will incorporate the preservation of the historic Osmania General Hospital building, which dates back to 1925. The new facility will be built on a 30-acre site at Goshamahal, while the original heritage structure will undergo restoration, maintaining the city’s iconic Indo-Saracenic architectural legacy. This development is part of the larger effort to modernize healthcare services in the region, ensuring the facility can cater to the growing medical needs of Hyderabad.
The decision to move the hospital to Goshamahal has received both praise and criticism. While it marks a significant step in improving healthcare infrastructure, some former footballers have expressed concerns over the redevelopment of the iconic sports grounds.
Earlier this year, Chief Minister Reddy confirmed the approval of the new hospital plan, which includes a comprehensive review of income and expenditure related to municipal services. The Telangana state cabinet also approved the land transfer from the Goshamahal police stadium for the construction of the hospital campus.
Osmania General Hospital, established in 1925 after the bubonic plague, is a landmark in Hyderabad’s healthcare and architectural history. Designed by renowned architect Vincent Esch, it serves as a vital part of the city’s cultural and medical heritage. The ongoing redevelopment aims to honor this history while meeting the evolving healthcare demands of the city’s population.
