In a landmark partnership aimed at driving digital health advancements, Monash University’s Faculty of Information Technology (IT) has joined forces with Apollo Hospitals, one of India’s premier healthcare networks. The collaboration seeks to leverage data, technology, and educational resources to elevate digital health research and solutions in both India and Australia.
The partnership was formalized through a recently signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), under which Monash Faculty of IT will not only share technological expertise with Apollo Hospitals but also conduct specialized educational sessions for Apollo’s healthcare professionals. In return, Monash students will gain hands-on experience through project-based learning opportunities within Apollo’s healthcare environment, helping them apply their skills in real-world clinical settings.
Professor Chris Bain, Digital Health Lead at Monash University’s Faculty of IT, highlighted the immense potential of the partnership. “We are thrilled about this collaboration, which allows both Apollo Hospitals and us to explore digital health projects that have not been attempted before in Australia, drawing from Apollo’s rich practical experience,” he said. “Our team is particularly excited to locally test and validate the innovative clinical AI work conducted at Apollo Hospitals.”
A key component of the partnership is the access to Apollo Hospitals’ extensive de-identified patient data, comprising information from over 200 million patients. This data pool will play a critical role in training AI algorithms, enabling Monash researchers to make breakthroughs in diagnosing and managing major health issues like cancer, heart disease, and diabetes, which remain leading causes of mortality worldwide.
In addition to the exchange of knowledge and technology, Monash and Apollo intend to co-host an annual multinational Health AI event. This platform will bring together experts from various fields to discuss digital health advancements, share research insights, address common challenges, and foster collaboration on global health issues.
