Ayushman Bharat reaches 30 crore card

Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri – Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY), managed by the National Health Authority (NHA), has achieved a remarkable milestone, issuing 30 crore Ayushman cards. This flagship initiative aims to provide a health cover of Rs. 5 lakhs annually per family, aiding in secondary and tertiary care hospitalization for 12 crore beneficiary families.

The creation of Ayushman cards is a central aspect of the AB PM-JAY. The scheme’s commitment and continuous efforts have led to this significant achievement, with over 16.7 crore cards issued in the last two fiscal years alone. In the financial year 2023-24, more than 7.5 crore cards have been issued, averaging around 181 cards every minute.

The Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra, launched on 15th November 2023, has played a pivotal role in accelerating card issuance at the grassroots level, contributing to over 2.43 crore new cards. Additionally, the Ayushman Bhava campaign, launched by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on 17th September 2023, further facilitated the creation of over 5.6 crore cards, emphasizing the saturation of various health schemes.

The NHA’s introduction of the ‘Ayushman App’ has revolutionized card creation. This app, featuring self-verification and a simple four-step process, has been downloaded over 52 lakh times since its introduction on 13th September 2023, allowing individuals to create Ayushman cards using Android mobile phones and promoting community participation.

Uttar Pradesh leads in card issuance with 4.83 crore cards, followed by Madhya Pradesh with 3.78 crore and Maharashtra with 2.39 crore. Eleven states boast over 1 crore cardholders each. Remarkably, about 14.6 crore cards have been issued to women, aligning with the scheme’s focus on gender and regional parity in healthcare access, with women receiving 48% of treatments under the scheme.

The Ayushman Card symbolises equity, entitlement, and empowerment, assuring families of protection against disease and the financial burdens of treatment. The government is committed to ensuring every eligible beneficiary has an Ayushman Card.

Furthermore, AB PM-JAY has catered to 6.2 crore hospital admissions, valued at over Rs. 79,157 crores, effectively halving the potential out-of-pocket expenses for the beneficiaries, saving them more than Rs. 1.25 lakh crore.
