In the ever-evolving landscape of the cable industry, significant advancements have taken place over the past decade. What began as a journey into selling set-up boxes during the phase of mandatory digitisation, has now blossomed into a sophisticated realm of networks and orchestration, shared Sumit K Gehani, Chief Growth Officer – New Verticals, Citius Communications at the 5th Elets Pharma Leadership Summit & Awards in Mumbai.

Having already established a commendable presence in neighbouring countries, there is now an aspiration to expand into larger markets like Europe and the US. Global system integrators play a pivotal role in this journey, facilitating interactions with a diverse range of sectors from banking to pharma. Noteworthy collaborations are in the pipeline with giants like Persistent, TCS, and TCL, aiming to position our innovative solutions at the forefront of the global market.

He added, “A prominent challenge observed within the pharma industry is the existence of isolated applications. Whether it’s a sales app, clinical app, or diagnostic app, these tools currently operate in silos, limiting their potential. However, the telecom industry offers inspiration, with its single Network Operation Centre giving a holistic view of customer interactions. Such a centralised system, or what we coin as the ‘single plane of glass’, can revolutionise the pharma industry. It offers the executive suite – whether it’s the CIO, CISO, or Application Personnel – a comprehensive view across cross-functional organisations. While integrating these may appear daunting, the reality is that it has been realised in other verticals, making it a tangible goal for the pharma sector too.”

In a world where geo-customers can be monitored real-time from centralised locations, the question arises – why can’t the same be done for other industries, like pharma? The answer lies in the embrace of advanced network technologies, particularly 5G. This revolutionary tech not only offers high-speed connectivity but also redefines how IoT devices are connected and controlled. The introduction of the “5G in a box” concept, a compact solution for rapid deployment, is poised to be a game-changer. Whether it’s for testing applications or for full-scale deployment, this tech is the future, said Sumit.

He further added, “The shift towards automation is undeniable. From AI to ML, industries are striving to optimise processes, and the core of this lies in robust internet and network systems. Infrastructure that’s agile, scalable, and efficient is the need of the hour. With the advent of disaggregated architectures, it’s now possible to achieve industry-grade solutions that are both compact and powerful.”

Concluding his presentation he stated, “Cybersecurity remains a top concern, especially as we transition to advanced networks like 5G. Existing enterprise networks may have built-in security, but the migration to 5G demands an overhaul of security modules. This is where expert solutions can bridge the gap, ensuring that the network’s integrity remains uncompromised.”
