CM Shinde

The government’s flagship health insurance policy will cover the whole population of Maharashtra, stated Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

Following state cabinet meeting, CM Shinde announced that the Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Jan Arogya Yojana (MPJAY) premium has been raised from Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 5 lakh.

“The health insurance scheme will cover the entire 12.5 crore population of the state,” CM Shinde said.

The MPJAY health scheme delivers end-to-end cashless healthcare for selected ailments through a network of government and private sector service providers.

The scheme now benefits holders of the yellow ration card, the Antyodaya Anna Yojana ration card (AAY), the Annapurna ration card, and the orange ration card, as well as white ration card-holder farming families from 14 agriculturally challenged districts and other groups.

The chief minister also stated that Maharashtra’s “aapla davakhana” scheme for providing health care to the ordinary man will be expanded.

“A total of 700 clinics will be set up across the state under ‘aapla davakhana’ scheme with the sanctioned budget of Rs 210 crore,” he added.

“As per this plan, workers employed in the unorganised sector will be registered. In the second phase, benefits of various welfare schemes meant for the unorganised sector will be provided,” Shinde added.
