In an effort to prioritise accessible and quality healthcare for every citizen of India, Dr Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, inaugurated CGHS Wellness Centres in Chandigarh and Panchkula. The ceremony was attended by prominent officials, including Smt Kirron Kher, Member of Parliament, Chandigarh, and Shri Gian Chand Gupta, Member of the Legislative Assembly from Panchkula, and Speaker of the Haryana Legislative Assembly. This development fulfills the long-awaited demand of employees and pensioners in Panchkula, making it the 80th city in India to offer CGHS facilities.
Chandigarh, which already had a CGHS Wellness Centre serving 47,000 registered beneficiaries, will now benefit from the opening of the second centre. The addition of another facility will divide the workload and significantly reduce waiting times, ensuring an improved quality of life for citizens.

Dr Mandaviya emphasized the government’s commitment to ease the lives of Indian citizens and expressed the importance of providing hassle-free access to quality healthcare, particularly for pensioners. He mentioned the simplification of billing and reimbursement processes, which will continue to be streamlined in the future. Integration of CGHS technology with the National Health Authority was also highlighted, reflecting the government’s aim to expand CGHS coverage to 100 cities across India.

Dr Mandaviya further reiterated the Modi government’s pro-poor approach and its dedication to equal access to affordable and quality healthcare, as exemplified by the success of Ayushman Bharat.

The inauguration of these two wellness centres will significantly alleviate the challenges faced by pensioners residing in the Chandigarh-Panchkula-Mohali tricity area, as well as neighboring regions of Punjab, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh.
With the addition of Chandigarh and Panchkula, the number of CGHS cities has expanded from 25 in 2014 to an impressive 80 in 2023.
