Ayush Grid

An essential brainstorming session on a citizen-centric health delivery ecosystem for universal health coverage using digital health and innovation took place on the second day of the second Health Working Group meeting under the G20 India Presidency. In his opening address at the side event, Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary, Ministry of Ayush, focused on an integrative holistic healthcare model of service delivery through a comprehensive IT foundation for Traditional Medicine called “Ayush Grid” and by ensuring the benchmarking of AI in Traditional Medicine with the direction and support of UN bodies.

In addition, Vaidya Kotecha emphasised the importance of promoting the use of digital tools to maintain medical records, exchange information, and extrapolate the efficacy of various healthcare modalities, including but not limited to pharmaco-therapeutic interventions, traditional medicine-based approaches, and other innovations. He claimed that one of the goals of the soon-to-be-established WHO Global Centre for Traditional Medicine in India is to concentrate on data analytics and technology in traditional medicine. This will be sufficient for TM’s influx of data and technology in the future.

In order to use them safely and effectively in healthcare, benchmarks, guidelines, and regulations must catch up, according to Shri Kotecha. The Ministry of Ayush is in charge of a topic group on traditional medicine as part of the Focus Group on Artificial Intelligence for Health (FG-AI4H), which aims to ensure the benchmarking of AI in traditional medicine and the guidance and support of UN bodies like the World Health Organisation and International Telecommunication Union.

The Ministry of Ayush has developed the Ayush Grid, which is in line with the concepts of the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission, based on the National Health Policy 2017 which anticipated the integral role of technology (eHealth, mHealth, Cloud, Internet of things, wearables, etc.). It was developed with an aim to reform the Ayush sector to provide effective, holistic, economical, and high-quality services to all, through a secure and interoperable digital environment. It is a comprehensive IT backbone for the traditional medicine sector in India. Ayush Grid’s four tiers of operation—Core layer, National Layer, State Layer, and Citizen access—ensure smooth digital connectivity for all parties involved.
