Apollo on Tuesday unveiled a Genomics Institute in Chennai for the study of genes and genetic disorders.
Apollo plans to establish three additional genomics facilities by the end of 2023 in Hyderabad, Bangalore, and Ahmedabad. The business already operates such institutions in Delhi and Mumbai.
The Apollo Genomic Institute in Chennai will offer a variety of services, including prenatal genetic screening, cancer genomics, obstetric genetics, clinical diagnostics, and more, giving patients the knowledge they need to manage and prevent genetic illnesses.
“Genomic medicine may have a revolutionary impact because India is a highly diverse and heterogeneous nation. Genetic abnormalities are becoming a significant group of diseases as newborn mortality rates decline, according to Preetha Reddy, Executive Vice Chair of Apollo Hospitals Group.
“Today, as our population gets more health conscious, we’re also seeing increased awareness amongst individuals around the value of genomic tests in the prevention and diagnosis of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and genetic diseases. The expansion of the Genomics Institute is a critical step towards the prevention and management of NCDs,” said Preetha.
The Apollo Genomics Institute aims to transform medical practice by bringing genomic services within the reach of every clinician and patient, the company said.
India makes up 0.2% of the world’s genetic database and accounts for 20% of the world’s population. A genetic variant database will be released by Apollo genetic Network. In addition to being actively involved in academic and research endeavours, the Pan-Apollo Genomics Network.
