Covid-19 Vaccines in India

US pharma major Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson (J&J) are yet to seek Emergency Use Authorization or EUA for their Covid vaccines in India, according to a report by news agency ANI. Earlier last week, the union government said that it is discussing with Covid vaccine producers of Pfizer and Moderna over many issues, including indemnity waiver.

NITI Aayog’s member for health, Dr VK Paul had informed that they are in touch with these two companies by holding discussions and are in the negotiation process and dialogues. He said that they are trying to find a solution on issues related to contractual and commitments issues and added that the process is ongoing.

In June, American biotech major Moderna had said that India has allowed for the company’s Covid vaccine import for limited use in an emergency situation. Also, Albert Bourla, Pfizer’s CEO had informed that it is in the final stages of obtaining approval for the Covid vaccine in the country. NITI Aayog’s Dr Paul had said that it will soon close the deal with Pfizer.
