In a bid to deliver vaccines to tough terrains, the union and state governments are reportedly exploring the drone platform. In a related development, the Indian Council of Medical Research or ICMR has invited bids from drone operators for supplying medicines and vaccines. Besides, the Telangana government has initiated a project for exploring the feasibility of medical supplies delivery by drones.
Logistics specialists such as Flipkart and Dunzo have said that they have joined hands with Telangana’s drone delivery programme for developing and executing drone deliveries in the state.
HLL Infra Tech Services floated a tender document on the behalf of ICMR on June 11 that outlined the aim for developing a feasible model for delivery of vaccine for ensuring the last-mile reach of tough terrains in selected locations. It floated the tender by using the preliminary results of what it declared as a successfully conducted feasibility study with IIT-Kanpur for delivering vaccines tapping into unmanned aerial vehicles or UAVs.
