As part of a major bureaucratic reshuffle, Rajesh Bhushan, has been appointed as Secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. He will be replacing Secretary Preeti Sudan whose term ends on July 30.
Bhushan is a 1987-batch Bihar cadre IAS officer. Currently, he is holding the post of Officer on Special Duty, Department of Health & Family welfare, Government of India.
Sudan, who was due to superannuate on April 30, had been given a three-month extension by Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The decision assumes significance as the Health Ministry is at the forefront of checking the spread of COVID-19 in the country.
As many as 23 senior IAS officers have been appointed as secretaries in different central government departments as part of the bureaucratic rejig in last couple of month.
