There seems be no immediate relief in sight as COVID-19 cases are on the rise in alarming manner. India reported more than 17,296 positive cases—the biggest single day increase on Thursday, taking the total tally near five lakh mark.

As per the data, the total cases have mounted to 4,90,401 lakh including number of fatalities standing at 15,301. A total of 407 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours. However, the recovery rate has improved to 58.24 per cent, according to the Union Health Ministry figures, with 2,85,637 patients recovering.


“A total of 4,90,401 positive cases have so far been reported in the country, which includes 1,89,463 active cases, 2,85,637 who have been cured/discharged and 15,301 deaths,” the Union Health Ministry said on Thursday.

Maharashtra has reported the highest number of cases, followed by Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and West Bengal. The total number of positive Corona cases has climbed to 1,47,741 in the state.


In the national capital too, the pandemic continues wreaking havoc, even if the State government along with centre are trying to overpower it.

With 3,390 fresh cases, the total figure has mounted to 73,780 in the city. A total of 64 deaths were reported over the past 24 hours. The total fatalities in the national capital stood at 2,429.
