Covid-19 SC

Amidst spurt in Corona cases in the national capital, the Supreme Court has lambasted Arvind Kejriwal Government. Criticizing the government for sorry state of health facilities for COVID patients, the Apex Court has termed the situation horrific and pathetic.

Pulling up the government for improper handling of COVID-19 patients, the court said they are being treated “worse than animals”.

It has also sought response from the central government as well as state governments including Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu where situation is grim.

“COVID-19 patients are treated worse than animals. In one case, a body was found in the garbage. Patients are dying and nobody is there to even attend to them,” the Supreme Court said.

“Why has your testing gone down from 7,000 to 5,000 a day when Chennai and Mumbai have increased their testing from 16,000 to 17,000?” the court asked.

Requests for coronavirus tests cannot be denied, the top court said, adding that the “procedure can be simplified so that more and more tests are done”.

Earlier, the Delhi High Court had observed that the national capital was heading towards becoming the “corona capital” of the country.

With 2,137 fresh instances on Friday, the total number of coronavirus cases rose to 36,824 in the capital. Seventy-one deaths have been reported as the toll reached 1,214, an official report said.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal on Friday constituted a high-level expert committee which includes ICMR Director General Balram Bhargava to suggest effective steps to deal with the pandemic as cases continue to rise to the alarming level.
