AIIMS Delhi

Studying in the All India Institute of Medical Science, one of the finest medical institutions across the country, could become costly as the institute is contemplating to increase fees it charges currently from students.

At the same time availing treatment could also become costly as user charges for various diagnostic procedures like blood tests, X-rays are all set to rise.

“In pursuance of the directions of the Government of India (Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Health and Family Welfare), AIIMS Delhi is required to review all fees and user charges in the institute,” an office memorandum from the financial advisor stated as per an HT report.

The move comes close on the heels of drastic hike in the hostel charges and other fees at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), leading to huge students’ protest.

If approved, patients will have to pay more that the current OPD charges of Rs10, admission charges of Rs 25, and daily cost of admission of Rs 35, report says.

The fee for students may also increase from the total tuition of Rs 7,640 for the 5.5-year MBBS course.

The idea of fee hike stems from the fact that the institute has to incur a huge cost to train a medical graduate.
