President Ram Nath Kovind on Friday visited former finance minister and BJP leader Arun Jaitley at All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS). Reportedly, Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare Harsh Vardan and other senior officials from the Minister were also present.

Jaitley, 67, who held many key portfolios in first term of the Government was admitted at AIIMS on August 9 on complaints of uneasiness and weakness. He has since been undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU).

The BJP leader who has not been keeping well from quite sometime now, is under observation and being monitored by a team of endocrinologist, nephrologist and cardiologist, various report say. Earlier, top leaders including Prime Minister visited him at AIIMS to enquiry about his condition.

Jaitley who voluntarily opted out to contest 2019 Parliamentary Polls which voted Modi government to power again, had a kidney transplant in May 2018. A lawyer by profession, he has been the most important leader of BJP who acted as chief troubleshooter for the government on several occasions.

In January this year, he went to the United States for a “regular medical check-up” and incumbent Union Railways Minister Piyush Goyal had to fill in for him to present the Interim Union Budget in February 2019.

Earlier in September 2014, he underwent bariatric surgery to correct the weight he had gained because of a long-standing diabetic condition.
