A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between the Odisha Government and the Vedanta Group for establishing 500-bed medical college and hospital in Bhawanipatna, the district headquarter of Kalahandi district.


Director of Medical Education & Training (DMET) of the State Government Sonamali Bag and Director of Corporate Strategy of Vedanta Rahul Sharma inked the MoU on Tuesday.

According to the agreement, a total of Rs 350 crore will be spent on the project, of which Vedanta will spend around Rs 100 crore. While the State government will run the medical college and hospital, Vedanta will develop the infrastructure support for it.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, State Health and Family Welfare Minister Pratap Jena and others were present during signing of the agreement.


Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said the medical college and hospital will benefit the people in Kalahandi and other parts of western Odisha.

Speaking on this occasion State Health Minister Pratap Jena said the medical college will have intake capacity of 100 MBBS seats.
