InferMed is pleased to announce its partnership with NHS Cambridgeshire in a pilot project that will uate the use of best practice guidelines for COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease). The project seeks to ensure that all patients are on the appropriate clinical pathway for their individual circumstances, and that their medication regime is relevant and in accordance with PCT directives and the latest clinical guidelines. The project is scheduled to start in July 2011, with an initial group of 10 GP practices across the county that will access InferMed’s Arezzo Optimal Pathways Application (OPA) via a secure hosted web service environment. Arezzo OPA will be integrated with the GPs’ electronic medical record (EMR) system and will help the GP to provide a care pathway appropriate for each individual patient. In the Cambridgeshire project Arezzo OPA will prompt the GP to consider the COPD pathway by presenting a series of patient-related questions. OPA then uses the answers to generate the optimal guideline for that patient’s COPD based on national guidelines and local directives. This is presented to the GP with possible options, recommendations, and reasons for the recommendations. The ultimate decision as to clinical care will lie with the GP, but they can be assured they have the best information to support their judgement. In accordance with Cambridgeshire’s strategic plan to ensure safe, long-lasting and cost-effective health services, the project will measure the results of the pilot by uating the improved patient outcomes, and quantifying projected savings from lower hospital admissions, eliminating variance, reduced medication costs (largely through the removal of medicine which is no longer of benefit to the patient), and other cost benefits. Sue Ashwell, Chief Pharmacist of NHS Cambridgeshire, commented, “We are delighted to be working in partnership with InferMed and our General Practitioners to review innovative solutions that support GPs and patients to effectively manage the treatment pathway of their Chronic Illness and individually tailor their care to their presenting needs.” Duane Lawrence, CEO of InferMed Limited, added, “InferMed is passionate in its commitment to helping clinical professionals ensure that every patient receives the best treatment for their individual needs. Our project in partnership with the team at NHS Cambridgeshire is a fine example of how the Arezzo Optimal Pathways Application helps us achieve this in practice.” InferMed Limited Since 1999, InferMed has provided software and services to support best practice in medicine.
