The European Space Agency (ESA) is supporting the Health Early Warning System (HEWS) project to help Europe fight new diseases like SARS and avian flu. ESA is supporting HEWS to improve the performance of emergency services for end-users. HEWS is planning to set up a communication network through satellite to survey and monitor risk indicators. It allows communication between teams in the field and command centres, as data from many locations can be collected, stored and processed. The projects allows users to manage real-time perspective on events.
