A breast cancer research surgery shows that removing all nymph nodes may not be necessary as a method of treatment. A doctor performed a less invasive procedure which reduces pain in the shoulder, decreased sensation in the arm and chest and swelling of the arm. A study published in American journal contradicts those who believe that removing lymph nodes can reduce chances of cancer. The study also published a research which was conducted on a large number of patients and found that survival rates after five years are nearly the same in breast cancer patients who had 17 lymph nodes removed, compared to those who had just two nodes removed. Although, the Indian medical centers are still reluctant to practice this method of treatment as it requires nuclear medicine, trained pathologists and organization. Keeping in mind, this less invasive method of treating cancer will only work if the tumor is a minor one. In India, there are one lakh women diagnosed with breast cancer every year and the treatment methods should now be better off. The doctors should gradually empower themselves with knowledge and meet the demands of patient for new methods in health sector.
