Technetium, a form of insulin used to track changes in insulin metabolism and find and monitor tumours, has been developed by researchers at McMaster University. The new tool can be injected into the bloodstream and can provide a non-invasive alternative method to detect breast cancer, particularly in women with small tumours or dense breast tissue. The tool, which is a widely used radioisotope, helps doctors find tumours that are currently difficult to detect allowing for earlier treatment.
