SpeechMagic, Nuance Communications’ speech recognition technology, now being used at London’s Royal Free Hospital. Soliton IT, partner with Nuance Healthcare, implemented the same and the front-end speech recognition proved useful for over 50 radiologists. RFH, along with University Hospital Lewisham, North Middlesex Hospital and Great Ormond Street Hospital, joined the high-profile healthcare providers in London who have recently adopted Nuance’s speech recognition together with Soliton IT’s Workflow Manager.

SpeechMagic automatically translates the words of the findings dictated given by the radiologists at RFH and displays it on computer screens. Therefore, without any help radiologists can handle the entire process themselves, as compared to them coordinating with their respective secretaries. This results in faster outputs, reports, better service to clinicians and referring physicians. Simone Towie, head of radiology at the Royal Free Hospital, mentioned that the radiology staff has taken to the system easily and are happy with the voice recognition solution. Soliton IT’s Workflow Manager with Nuance’s SpeechMagic provides a fully integrated reporting solution for RFH’s PACS/RIS.
