US$18 million contract was awarded to Horizon Telcom by the Southern Ohio Health Care Network, to build a state-of-the-art fiber-optic network in 13 southern Ohio countries. 120 health care facilities are to be connected by this project though which the area providers will be enabled to participate in telemedicine initiatives, community health record projects and a regional health information organization.

Keeping rural medicinal practices, increased healthcare provider collaboration and improved emergency communication will be supported by the network. Businesses, educational sites and government offices in the area will also be given access to the same broadband services. The Network is made up of O’Bleness Health System in Athens, Adena Health System in Chillicothe and Holzer Health Systems in Gallipolis.
