The Health Department of Haryana has joined hands with private ultrasound centres to provide antenatal ultrasound tests to pregnant women free of cost.

The decision was taken in view of the acute shortage of radiologists in government medical colleges and hospitals in the state.

Under this initiative, the services of private ultrasound centres will be availed through the Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan, a government official said.

According to him, the Health Department will pay the private centres Rs 350 for each scan.

The initiative would be put in operation on September 9. It will enable linking of each private centre to at least two government health facilities.
