Alkem Laboratories signage, after its Mandva API plant cleared a USFDA inspection with zero Form 483 observations

Alkem Laboratories has cleared a US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) inspection at its active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) manufacturing facility at Mandva without a single Form 483 observation. The five-day inspection ran from 26 to 30 October 2026.

Alkem Mandva USFDA inspection: what the company disclosed

In a filing with BSE and NSE dated 30 October 2026, Alkem said the USFDA inspection of the Mandva API facility “was concluded with no form 483 observation”. The disclosure was signed by Manish Narang, President – Legal, Company Secretary and Compliance Officer.

A Form 483 is the list of conditions that USFDA investigators believe may breach current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) rules. Closing an inspection without one means the investigators recorded no such conditions at the site during this visit.

An improvement on the last Mandva inspection

The outcome is cleaner than the site’s previous USFDA visit. After an inspection from 27 November to 1 December 2023, Mandva received a Form 483 with three observations, none of them related to data integrity, according to the company’s December 2023 disclosure. The USFDA later issued an Establishment Inspection Report and classified that inspection as Voluntary Action Indicated (VAI) in February 2024.

Why a clean API inspection matters

Mandva makes APIs, the core inputs that go into finished dosage forms. For a vertically integrated generics maker such as Alkem, a clean result at a captive API plant reduces regulatory risk for the US-bound formulations that draw on it.

The result comes during a busy stretch of USFDA activity across Indian plants. In the same week, Granules India’s Gagillapur finished dosage unit received a Form 483 with 11 observations, while OneSource Specialty Pharma’s Bengaluru sterile facility received a VAI classification. Earlier, Dr. Reddy’s Srikakulam unit also secured a VAI tag after a three-observation Form 483.

Key takeaways

  • The USFDA inspected Alkem’s Mandva API facility from 26 to 30 October 2026.
  • The inspection closed with zero Form 483 observations, Alkem told the stock exchanges on 30 October.
  • The site’s previous inspection, in 2023, ended with three observations and was later classified VAI.
  • A clean API audit supports supply security for Alkem’s US formulations business.

FAQ

What does “zero Form 483 observations” mean?

It means USFDA investigators did not record any conditions at the facility that they considered potential cGMP violations during the inspection.

What does Alkem make at Mandva?

Mandva is one of Alkem’s API manufacturing facilities, producing the active ingredients used in finished medicines.

Is this the final outcome of the inspection?

The USFDA typically follows an inspection with an Establishment Inspection Report that formally classifies it. An inspection with no Form 483 usually closes as No Action Indicated, though the agency issues the final classification.
