MedicaMetrix CEO Robert Rudelius and Dr B. Parthasaradhi Reddy exchange the MoU at Sindhu Hospitals, Hyderabad

Hyderabad’s Sindhu Hospitals has signed a memorandum of understanding with BeyondA1C, a division of US-based MedicaMetrix Inc., to introduce AI-enabled, point-of-care nerve conduction testing for diabetic complications. The partners describe it as the first launch of these tests in India, and the hospital plans to use them as a frontline mass-screening tool rather than a test reserved for patients who already show symptoms.

Why early screening matters

Diabetes damages the body’s smallest blood vessels long before most patients notice anything wrong, affecting the nerves, kidneys, eyes and feet. According to the partners, up to half of people with diabetic nerve damage have no symptoms when it is detected, and some estimates suggest as many as 80 per cent of cases go undiagnosed even in well-developed health systems. For a country with one of the world’s largest diabetic populations, a quick test that can be run during a routine visit could shift detection much earlier.

Three testing pathways

The device, built around the FDA-cleared DPNCheck nerve conduction system, will be used across three clinical scenarios at Sindhu Hospitals:

  • Sheffield One-Stop: a single-appointment screen for people with or at risk of diabetes that checks nerve function, foot health, kidneys and metabolic markers together, so patients do not need separate visits for each test.
  • BeyondA1C Onco: measures sural nerve function in both legs of patients undergoing chemotherapy and compares results against the patient’s own baseline, giving oncologists an objective grade of treatment-related neuropathy.
  • BeyondA1C Dialysis: assigns dialysis patients an IWGDF 2023 foot-risk category from 0 to 3, so nephrologists can step in early based on close surveillance.

What the partners said

“Sindhu Hospitals is the right place to begin in India,” said Robert Rudelius, Chief Executive Officer of MedicaMetrix, adding that the hospital’s clinicians and research focus would show what earlier testing means for patients with diabetes, cancer and kidney disease.

Dr B. Soma Raju, Consultant Cardiologist and Mentor Director at Sindhu Hospitals, said finding diabetic complications early should be routine care and that the tests would be built into the hospital’s specialties, including oncology and dialysis. Dr Smitha Nalla, Consultant Endocrinologist, noted that many patients with microvascular complications have no symptoms, which makes point-of-care screening of every at-risk patient critical.

About the partners

Sindhu Hospitals, an initiative of the Sai Sindhu Foundation founded by Dr Bandi Parthasaradhi Reddy, is planned as a 1,500-bed, not-for-profit, cancer-focused quaternary care hospital in Hyderabad’s HITEC City. Spread across 2.2 million square feet, it was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in May 2026 and offers more than 30 specialties.

BeyondA1C, based in Waltham, Massachusetts, offers screening, diagnostic and surveillance tests for nerve injury and related complications, and works with hospital and laboratory partners globally, including the University of Sheffield.

The tie-up adds to a growing wave of Indian hospitals adopting AI-assisted diagnostics at the point of care, as providers look to catch chronic-disease complications before they turn into costly, irreversible damage.
