Fortis Hospital, Bannerghatta Road, Bengaluru has crossed the milestone of 3,000 robotic-assisted surgeries, marking a significant achievement in advanced and minimally invasive surgical care. The hospital reached the landmark within eight years of launching its robotic surgery programme in 2018.

The milestone was achieved using the advanced da Vinci Xi robotic surgical system and reflects the hospital’s growing expertise in technology-enabled surgery across multiple clinical specialities. Fortis Bannerghatta Road has developed one of the country’s comprehensive robotic surgery programmes, with procedures performed across urology, surgical oncology, gynaecology, gastrointestinal surgery, bariatric surgery, cardiac surgery, thoracic surgery, ENT and other disciplines.

The hospital is also among the few centres in India to have two da Vinci Xi robotic surgical systems under one roof. This infrastructure enables surgical teams to undertake complex procedures across specialities while supporting the hospital’s focus on precision-driven and minimally invasive care.

Since the programme began, robotic-assisted surgery at Fortis Bannerghatta Road has been used for a wide range of complex procedures. The technology allows surgeons to operate through smaller incisions while providing enhanced visualisation, precision and control during surgery.

The hospital has also developed the Total Robot Enabled and Assisted Transplant (TREAT) Programme, an advanced robotic kidney transplant initiative that integrates robotic technology into donor and recipient procedures.

The 3,000-surgery milestone includes experience across urology, oncology, gynaecology, gastrointestinal and cardiac procedures, among other areas. The programme has also supported the expansion of minimally invasive approaches for complex surgical conditions.

Robotic surgery can offer several potential benefits for appropriately selected patients, including smaller surgical incisions, reduced surgical trauma, lower blood loss and faster recovery. However, the suitability of robotic-assisted procedures depends on the patient’s condition, procedure and clinical assessment.

The achievement highlights Fortis Hospital, Bannerghatta Road’s continued investment in surgical technology, multidisciplinary expertise and clinical training. It also reflects the growing role of robotic platforms in expanding the possibilities of minimally invasive surgery and delivering advanced surgical care.

The milestone was commemorated through SURGX 2026, an academic platform focused on robotic surgery, which brought together surgeons, healthcare professionals and experts to discuss emerging technologies, complex cases and the future of robotic-assisted surgery.

With its expanding robotic capabilities and multidisciplinary approach, Fortis Hospital, Bannerghatta Road aims to further strengthen access to advanced minimally invasive surgical care while continuing to focus on clinical excellence, patient safety and improved surgical outcomes.
