Bengaluru: Manipal Hospitals has announced the acquisition of Sahyadri Hospitals in a landmark ₹6,300 crore transaction, marking one of the largest acquisitions in India’s healthcare sector. The deal significantly strengthens Manipal Hospitals’ footprint in western India while reinforcing the ongoing consolidation of the country’s private healthcare industry.

With the acquisition, Manipal Hospitals will add 11 Sahyadri Hospitals across Maharashtra to its network, expanding its presence to 49 hospitals with nearly 12,000 beds nationwide. The move enhances the hospital chain’s ability to provide advanced healthcare services across key urban and regional markets.

The acquisition is expected to strengthen Manipal Hospitals’ position in Maharashtra, one of India’s largest healthcare markets, while improving access to tertiary and quaternary care for patients across the region. It also supports the company’s strategy of building a pan-India integrated healthcare network through strategic acquisitions.

Industry experts view the transaction as another major milestone in the consolidation of India’s private healthcare sector, where leading hospital chains are increasingly expanding through mergers and acquisitions to improve scale, operational efficiency, and clinical capabilities.

The deal also aligns with Manipal Hospitals’ long-term growth strategy as the company prepares for its anticipated initial public offering (IPO). A larger hospital network and expanded geographic presence are expected to strengthen its market position and enhance investor confidence ahead of its public listing.
